ODYSSEY TO THE HILLS
Date-15th July 2016 to 21st July 2016
Parvati Valley is situated in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. From the confluence of the Parvati River with the Beas River, the Parvati River runs eastwards, through a steep-sided valley from the town of Bhuntar, in the Kullu valley.
Before you step in the aura of the Parvati Valley, it is difficult to presume that tranquility and peace can waft through the air. Well, the Parvati Valley circuit is the perfect brew to calm an agitated soul. The crisp mountain air, coupled with the delicious Israeli food, with the smell of burning herbs coursing through the otherwise unpolluted air, make up the so-called “Amsterdam of India”. Before you make any presumptions about the hippie paradise, you ought to slow down and enjoy the slow pace of life in one of the loveliest Himalayan Valleys in India.
There are abundant treks and mini hikes that take you to tremendously beautiful villages. Not all of them are clustered with luxury stays and world cuisine restaurants, but you’ll be surprised with the warm hospitality of the villagers and locals in the Old and the New Kasol, separated by a small bridge.
Many call it Trance & Psychedelic Party village.
Located not too far away from the backpacker town of Kasol in Himachal Pradesh is the tiny village of Chalal. The village of Chalal is located at an altitude of around 5366 feet above sea-level and is located on the banks of the River Parvati.
Chalal can only be approached by foot from the town of Kasol by crossing a cable suspended bridge that has been built over the free flowing Parvati river. After crossing the bridge take the trail leading to the left and follow the narrow path that takes hikers through the forest of tall pine trees.
The most striking feature of Tosh is its altitude. It is located way up and therefore offers excellent views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains and the valley below. If you like trekking, that Tosh offers you multiple options. In addition, there is a scenic waterfall that is located half an hour trek from the central point of the village. It is highly recommended that you make a trip to the waterfall. It is serene and quite picturesque. The trek to the waterfall is an experience in itself passing through scenic pathways that offer excellent views of the valley below and the snow-capped peaks above.
Kheerganga is a meadow situated at an elevation of almost 10,000 feet in Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh. According to a legend, Kartikeya, the younger son of Lord Shiva and Parvati, meditated for a thousand years at Kheerganga making it a very important religious place for Hindus. The trek to Kheerganga goes through dense forests and all along the gushing Parvati River. There is an old temple and natural hot springs at Kheerganga.
